Ok, here is the thing. You have an Ecuadorian passport but are you a legal resident of New Jersey and or pending for residency papers (such as the green card or temporary residency) then it is ok to do so. If all you have is an Ecuadorian passport and/or it is expired it can lead to some discourse.
